Autonomous Advisory Systems

The rapid market evolution toward autonomous operations has created a severe technological barrier for established process facilities.

The continuous process industries are on the cusp of the on-ramp where an autonomous AI solution is an inevitable next step, but no “in the box” ready solution exists.

The reality of the world where sophisticated cutting-edge complex technologies like SIS and Foundation Fieldbus have been successfully implemented, have been through shared risk/reward beta sites. These team oriented owner-supplier scenarios have yielded a path forward for maturity and growth.

The Legacy DCS Advantage

Recently introduced high-end, initiatives like Honeywell Experion Cognition or Emerson Delta V v16 Virtual Advisor promise transformative machine learning capabilities, yet force plants into multi-million-dollar hardware replacements. Legacy DCS systems have leveraged APC and RTO applications thus to enhance unit performance, yields, efficiencies, and quality, yet have limits in truly maximizing operating potentials and resolving complex and troublesome scenarios.

Dominus AAS

DOMINUS Industries is target-focused for the application of non-intrusive Autonomous Advisory Systems (AAS) that interfaces directly to field-proven, legacy Distributed Control Systems (DCS) without disrupting existing infrastructure or loop safety. Our core innovation isolates complex data processing to an external, air-gapped read-only network layer.

By marrying generative intelligence with deterministic physics equations, Dominus delivers what we classify as Premium Rationalized Intelligence (PRI), a safe, low-risk, and highly reliable software on-ramp that plant operators can confidently adopt in their existing operations.

The Dominus Technology Solution

Centered around the Dominus Technology Licensing Framework with multi-software platforms, the operator interfaces to a multi discrete NVIDIA GPU Workstation via two dedicated 27-inch touchscreen monitors placed side-by-side with the native DCS consoles. Operators interact with the advice inside a secure, full-screen kiosk web browser completely isolated from corporate networks.

As an example, when a board operator queries the system or a level instability begins to drift, the software layers execute a coordinated data-handshake, the AAS captures 1-second interval tags, uses real-time data to solve process and dynamic mass and energy balances, and calculates unmeasured internal states. Instead of a generic alert, the operator receives a highly specific, multi-part advisory notice.

Operator Advisory

Operator Advisory for Performance, Reliability, and Safer Operations

Dominus Operator Advisory connects live operating data with physical process models, P&IDs, equipment design, operating procedures and manuals, and provides enhanced intelligent guidance that helps plant teams improve performance, reliability, and operating safety.

The “Senior Board Operator in a Box” remains central, making experienced reasoning available across crews while helping operations, engineering, and maintenance work from a shared understanding of the plant.

Operations Example

As an example, when heat exchanger performance begins to decline, IRIS brings together process trends, equipment models, inspection findings, and maintenance history to assess plausible causes and evaluate available responses.

It compares operating adjustments, reduced throughput, planned cleaning, or deferral to the next turnaround, showing the expected effects on production rate, product quality, energy consumption, equipment condition, and cost.

Effects on connected units and utility systems are also considered, so that a local improvement does not simply move a constraint elsewhere.

Added Intelligence

The same connected intelligence supports startup and upset planning by evaluating equipment readiness, utility dependencies, approved operating limits, and alternative operating sequences.

Relevant process scenarios and incident history support process hazard analysis.

Condition trends and inspection evidence inform preventive maintenance and turnaround scope.

Improving APC performance is part of the same work, using current equipment condition and process behavior to support review and refinement of control models, constraints, and optimization targets.

Advanced Models and Simulation

Process models and scenario simulation let teams compare alternatives before acting on the plant.

The longer term goal includes evaluating 1,000 scenarios across changing feed conditions, equipment availability, and operating constraints, showing which choices remain effective as assumptions change.

Each recommendation explains the engineering basis, expected benefit, applicable limits, and uncertainty.
